Material selection
How to Select Oral Pouch Nonwoven Material
Do not choose a pouch material by gsm alone. Start with the full system: application, fill, pouch construction, machine, sealing conditions, wet-use requirements, documentation and the acceptance criteria that define a successful trial.
Eight selection dimensions
1. Application
Nicotine, caffeine, nootropic, coffee-based and emerging fills are qualification contexts, not interchangeable labels.
2. Fill
Particle size, dust, moisture and multi-ingredient behavior influence retention and sealing cleanliness.
3. Pouch size
Finished dimensions and seal geometry affect the required material and width discussion.
4. Machine
Feeding, cutting and line stability should be evaluated on the actual converting setup.
5. Sealing
Use a machine-specific process window; avoid supplier claims of one universal temperature or dial setting.
6. Wet use
Dry physical data does not replace wet integrity and finished-pouch review.
7. Mouthfeel
Softness, edges and handling should be judged in the complete pouch construction.
8. Evidence
Match model, revision, report date and scope to the material actually under qualification.
32 gsm or 34 gsm?
Use them as controlled comparison options, not as “light” and “premium” labels. A practical choice depends on the trade-off your own line and finished pouch reveal.
32 gsm
Available for sample review. Its performance should be tied to the corresponding sample identity and qualification records rather than copied from the 34 gsm TDS.
34 gsm
Current manufacturer-issued numeric values are available, while two test-method references are under controlled-document review.
